  • Oxford is so extensively home to universities that the entire city can be considered a college town, with half of its residents being students.
  • In the city center, colleges like Christ Church, University College, Balliol, and Merton are renowned for their deep, historic roots and for producing a significant number of British Prime Ministers, representing the flagship colleges of Oxford University.
  • To the north of the city, colleges such as St Anne’s and St Hugh’s have a relatively shorter history and boast a more open atmosphere with generally larger and more modern facilities.
  • Each college has one or two libraries, and there is the globally renowned Bodleian Library, directly managed by the university headquarters. The Weston Library has received contributions from the South Korean corporation, Samsung Electronics.
  • Lady Margaret Hall prioritizes undergraduate admissions, guaranteeing college residence accommodations to all undergraduates for three years.

VOX (Voices from Oxford)

As a part of Balliol College, It plays a role in disseminating the vast knowledge and wisdom gathered in Oxford to the world through online platforms.

Voices from Oxford is an extensive webcast series that introduces faculty, students, and alumni of Oxford University to a global audience. This platform offers a variety of ideas and activities in an open and accessible format.

Webcasts are primarily produced as mini-documentaries or interviews. Unlike news channels that follow a news agenda, the content spans a wide range of issues based on the themes and agendas of notable Oxford professors, graduates, students, and many distinguished visitors to Oxford University.

The inspiration for Voices from Oxford (VOX) came from Alastair Cooke's famous BBC broadcast series, 'Letter from America'. Similar to that program, we aim to develop messages that will capture the interest of people worldwide, focusing on events, stories, or figures from the Oxford global community. While we cannot replicate Alastair Cooke's magic, we hope that the internet will enable us to convey these messages in new and effective ways in the 21st century.

St Clare's, Oxford

St. Clare's, Oxford specializes in providing language training and camps for teenagers, adults, and groups.

Advancing international education since 1953.

Founder

St Clare's, Oxford was founded in 1953 by Anne Dreydel OBE and Pamela Morris. The institution grew out of a desire to rebuild relationships between British and European students after World War II.

Origin of the name

Our original name was The Oxford English Center for Foreign Students. A few years later, the building was renamed St Clare's Hall, and subsequently changed to St Clare's, Oxford, a name that continues to this day.

International perspective

In the mid-1950s, students from over 12 Western European countries attended our institution. Over time, our strong reputation and the power of word-of-mouth have expanded this reality globally.

Today, we consistently attract students from over 40 countries each year, remaining true to our original mission established at the college's inception. Our mission focuses on "promoting international education and understanding."

Offering professional courses

Over the past decade, we have expanded our services to include not only university-level and college preparatory courses but also long-term academic programs and short-term summer courses. These short courses, designed for juniors, teenagers, and adults, have become extremely popular and continue to attract global interest. In fact, young students who choose to study with us during their summer break regularly recommend us to their friends, clearly indicating that our programs consistently provide a positive learning experience year after year.

Foreign language course

Then, in the 1960s, we established links with American universities to provide quality overseas study programs. By the 1970s, students had chosen our academic programs to enjoy the benefits of cooperation and earn credits for home study programs.

International Baccalaureate

In 1977, we introduced an International Baccalaureate Diploma for college prospective students and gradually abolished the A level. These developments have led to increased professionalism in the IB methodology. In fact, we are the first IB World School in the UK. Our sixth form continues to be one of the longest running IB schools in the world, with only 13 other institutions that have taught IB for longer than us. Our IB World School is consistently outperforming the world average. With our excellent results, IB students regularly go to the top universities.

English language

Our adult courses are a stimulating alternative to traditional English courses. Many of the courses are for non-native speakers who want to improve their language and academic confidence in order to study at English-speaking universities. The courses focus on deepening academic knowledge, improving learning skills, and learning new things.

Teacher Training

Our expertise extends from providing IB Diploma to providing professional teacher training courses. We have been offering IB teacher training workshops in partnership with IB since 2002. Our workshops meet a wide range of educational experience and professional development needs. All workshop events are small, informal and friendly, which maximizes networking opportunities. All workshop leaders have been fully approved and approved by IB. We also invite our own IB practitioners to contribute to events that further enhance the experience.

We also offer CELTA, DELTA teacher training courses and customized professional development courses for English teachers.

Independent school in Oxford

We are a co-ed independent school in Oxford. Over the past 70 years, our campus has grown to accommodate the growing number of students. It has expanded from its original location on 141 Banbury Road to 25 residential houses in North Oxford. In 1999, we even purchased a building on Bardwell Road, which has become an international university location for the past 23 years.

The expansion of the building, named after one of its founders, Pamela Morris, was made in 2014 to create more educational space. The Pamela Morris building has three well-equipped science labs, a preparation room, and three large math classrooms. The building is carefully designed with reference to nearby Victorian and Edwardian architecture.

The following November 2015, the award-winning 121 Residence and Art Studio opened. Art Studio is purpose-built and offers an inspiring learning environment. Located around the beautiful quad, the residential area offers separate bathrooms for boys and girls.
